Being the only triangle-shaped castle in all of Germany, the Wewelsburg was built between 1603 and 1609 by the Prince-Bishop of Paderborn, Dietrich of Fürstenberg, on the site of previous fortified structures. Like so many other castles of the area, it was built in the Weser-Renaissance style.
